A 43-year-old man was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Thursday after allegedly hitting a Purdue student outside Krannert Building.
Charles Manning, 43, allegedly approached the student while intoxicated and asked “where’s the party at?”
The victim, who told police they don’t personally know Manning, said they didn’t know what Manning was talking about before Manning allegedly slapped them, PUPD Capt. Song Kang said.
Kang said the victim's friends allegedly held onto Manning until officers arrived at Krannert, where the victim reportedly refused medical attention.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Manning previously graduated Purdue with degrees in econometrics and quantitative economics.
A Reddit thread apparently posted by an eyewitness during the incident alleged the reported battery seemed to be aggravated based on race, but Kang said police don’t believe race was a motivating factor.
Manning has been listed as a Persona Non Grata for the entirety of Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, effectively banning him from campus until Nov. 16, 2024.
Manning is charged with battery and public intoxication, and as of Sunday afternoon, he is no longer being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail with a $250 bond.
