Democrats Bob Downing and Stacey Burr have won the city council seats of the sixth districts in Lafayette and West Lafayette, respectively.
Downing earned 70.97% of the vote at 440 votes while his opponent, Republican Perry Barbee, earned 29.03% of the vote.
Burr earned 65.66% of the vote while her opponent, incumbent Jeff Brown, earned 34.34%.
“I appreciate everybody in Lafayette who did come out to vote” said Downing. “I will work very hard to try to keep up with everything we are doing.”
Downing said he wants to thank Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski, who also won his election against Libertarian Benjamin Milanowski, and Cindy Murray, who ran unopposed as Lafayette's City Clerk.
Prior to the election results, Barbee said he was appreciative of his supporters.
“I’m proud of everybody who had helped me throughout the campaign, whether it was putting up signs, knocking on doors, making phone calls, (just) spreading the word,” Barbee said.
Following the election results, Barbee was not present for comment
“From this, we’re starting making our city better and there's certain things we are doing, and have to continue doing,” Downing said.
Neither Burr nor Brown were available to comment.
