West Lafayette Police Department jailed six people after Purdue faced off against the Oregon Ducks last weekend, according to WLPD’s Purdue Football Weekend Statistics.
This follows a trend of criminal activity spiking in West Lafayette during game day weekends at home. WLPD received 200 calls and jailed 15 people over the weekend the Boilermakers played against Nebraska. Over the Indiana State game weekend, 203 calls were reported and seven people were arrested.
Purdue’s loss against the Ducks showed a marked decrease in crime happening in town, with calls reduced to 173 and six jailed.
Of those arrested were three Purdue Students, Zachary Wiseman, 22, Mudit Karir, 20, and Jonathan Hida, 21.
Zachary Wiseman, 22, was on a VEO scooter when he was reportedly stopped by officers after he was told not to operate it around Mitch Daniel Boulevard and Sheetz Street about 3:30 a.m. Wiseman was arrested on the preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Mudit Karir, 20, was arrested after allegedly striking a man and “acting disorderly” in the 300 block of West State Street about 3 a.m., according to media logs. Karir has been preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and minor consumption of alcohol.
Jonathan Hida, 21, was arrested for public intoxication after reportedly falling in the parking lot of the Neon Cactus twice and being “given multiple chances to leave the area and go home,” according to media logs.
Combined with the last four home games this year, WLPD have responded to a total of 765 calls and jailed at least 17 people.
