A shooting was reported about 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of La Hacienda Thursday.
One victim was allegedly shot and has been sent to a hospital, West Lafayette Police Department Deputy Chief Troy Harris told the Exponent. His condition is unknown.
After the shooting, the suspect, who police reportedly identified as a black male without a shirt, reportedly fled into the woods behind Neon Cactus. He was later apprehended at Harrison Memorial Bridge, Tippecanoe County sheriff's deputy Ryne Shoemaker said.
There is no danger at this moment, he said. The Exponent will update this story as more information is revealed.
5:50 p.m.
There were a minimum of five shots fired, Sgt. Dave Smith told the Exponent. Law enforcement are gathering shell casings on the scene.
5:31 p.m.
Bystanders were reportedly seen wrapping T-shirts around the victim's head before police arrived on the scene, a witness told the Exponent.
Adriana Baughman, a bartender at Nine Irish Bothers who reportedly witnessed the shooting, said she heard the victim yelling.
"It was really sad because he was still conscious, and he was like, ‘I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die,'" Baughman said, "and (the crowd around the victim) were like, ‘You’re not gonna die, you’re not gonna die.'"
A storefront door near La Hacienda displays a "Temp Lockdown" sign following a reported shooting in the parking lot about 3:30 p.m. West Lafayette police have arrested one suspect and say there is currently no danger to the public.
5:27 p .m.
Mike Tracy, a worker in the area who witnessed the shooting, said he saw two people following a third person shouting, with one person reportedly yelling, "You're not going to mess with my niece or cousin ever again!" before the shooting.
It was apparently a "family dispute," Tracy said. It's unclear if the dispute is related to the reported shooting.
5:18 p.m.
Andrew Gallagher, a witness working on lights in the parking lot, said he heard "multiple distinct shots."
5:09 p.m.
An employee at Nine Irish Brothers said the restaurant closed briefly, but reopened after talking to police.
