After two accidents that allegedly involved driving under the influence on Saturday, Indiana State Police are encouraging drivers to seek alternative forms of transportation when consuming alcohol.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Jeremy Piers said one of those accidents took place in Lafayette about 9 p.m. when a car allegedly drove off State Road 38.
“Based off the investigation from troopers with Indiana State Police, they were able to gather information that the drivers were under the influence of suspected alcohol,” Piers said.
The driver, Katlyn Leva, 23, has received preliminary charges
of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated causing endangerment, according to the Tippecanoe County jail roster.
A similar incident took place in Clinton County when a car also allegedly drove off the road. The driver, John Ortega, 37, was arrested on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to a press release from the ISP.
“To enhance public safety, the Indiana State Police urges everyone to consider alternative transportation options when consuming alcohol,” the press release said. “Utilizing designated drivers, public transportation or rideshare services can prevent tragic incidents and safeguard lives on the road.”
